The learning facility for ecology of Firefly

 

The activities for protecting fireflies have been continued for over 30 years by citizens

in Kitakyushu-city.

 

Firefly Museum was established as a facility that supports activities related to preservation

of the natural environment, learning and research on fireflies and other waterside

creatures and their habitats.

Environmental Museum of Water

 

The learning facility of the water environment

 

The Museum was established along the Murasaki River.  

You can see and feel the Nature from the view point of fishes, birds and insects at the

experience corner.

There are ecology tanks, you can learn about the river and the environment in Kitakyushu-city.

And also there is the huge River observation window with 2.3 metre high and 7.2 metre wide,

You can observe River creatures and fishes as well as Seawater fishes.

Ruins of Urakami Cathedral

 

Ruins of Urakami Cathedral
When you look to the right facing the Ground zero Monument see a sectionof damaged brick wall from the former Urakami Cathedral.

The church was located about 500 m northeast of the Ground zero

on the same site as the modern refurbished Urakami Cathedral.

The construction of former building began in 1895 and continued 

until 1925, when the twin steeples reached completion. 

Known at that time as the largest church in Orient, the imposing red-brick structure was devastated by the atomic bomb explosion, and a large 

number of parishioners were killed.

In 1958, part of the damaged eleven-meter-tall southern wall was moved to Nagasaki Peace Park.

Present Urakami Cathedral

The new cathedral was rebuilt in hornor of those lost.
It was reconstructed to its present shape in 1959 and the brick construction

was renovated in 1980, a year before the Pope’s visit.

Atomic Bomb Museum

 

Atomic Bomb Museum opened in Nagasaki Peace Park in 1996 as part of the 50th anniversary

project for the Nagasaki atomic bombing.

 

The museum replaced Nagasaki International Cultural Hall, where a number of artifacts related to

the atomic bombing were exhibited.

 

In addition to these artifacts, the museum exhibits a number of photograph that depict the devastation

caused by atomic bomb showing the lead-up to this tragic day, the history of the development of

nuclear arms and our desire for peace.

Oe Cathedral Amakusa

 

Registered on UNESCE World Heritage as Hidden Christian site

 

The oldest Catholic Church in Amakusa and was one of the first churches built right after the ban

on Christianity was lifted. The and Romanesque-style architecture and the chalky white structure

was rebuilt in 1933 by a French missionary priest named Father Garnier using his own money and

contributions from local Christians living in the area.

Sakitsu Village

 

Registered on UNESCE World Heritage as Hidden Christian site

 

A Gothic-looking church is located on a cove of a fishing village. In 1934, a French priest

Augustin Halbout MEP purchased the premises of the former village headman and built a

wooden and concrete finished church, with Tetsukawa Yosuke’s design and construction.

He placed the altar at the very site where fumie or a test to ensure non-allegiance to

Christianity had been conducted.

World-leading motor and industrial robots manufacturing company

 

Established in Kitakyushu in 1915. The robots are heavy duty industrial robots used in welding,

packing, assembly, painting and other activities.

Company visit to NISSAN Motor Kyushu

 

The roots of NISSAN is Tobata Casting funded in Kitakyushu in 1911.
The factory is located in Kanda-cho, Fukuoka Prefecture facing the Suo-nada Sea,

 and Commenced operation started in 1975.

 

Now TEANA, X-TRAIL ROGUE, SERENA and MURANO are being manufactured.  

The process from assembly of the parts to final products can be seen.
