Kirishima travel guide

 

Located in the northeastern part of Kagoshima and is the entrance to the Kirishima district of Kirishima Yaku National Park, which includes the Kirishima volcanic chain, Sakura jima and

Yaku shima Islands.

Kirishima Shrine   

One of the most beautiful shrine in Kyushu, and is surrounded by forest.

The Shrine buildings are constructed in 1715 and designated as Important Cultural

Property of Japan.


 

Kirishima Onsen 

Lying on the lower slopes of the Kirishima Mountain with a distant view over Kagoshima Bay

and Sakurajima below. 

The area is made up of over a dozen Onsen, of which the largest and best know is Maruo Onsen


 

Black Vinegar in Kirishima 

The Fukuyama area along Kinko Bay is home to the famous Japanese black vinegar.

Over here, one can tour the old-fashioned Tshubobatake which leterally means a field of

vinegar jars, witness the traditional manufacturing process of the black vinegar, taste and

purchase the finished product.

Showa no machi

The era that lasted till about 30 years ago in Japanese history, Bungo Takada was

the most prosperous in Kunisaki Peninsula for over 300 years from the Edo period up to 1900.
Here remains various old structures and remnants of regional Japanese.


 

Fuki-ji Temple

The temple is a Tendai Buddhist temple located on the slopes of Mount Futago. The temple was

established in 718 and the temple building is the oldest extant wooden structure in Kyushu

Tashibu-no-sho

This district was once considered the most important estate of Usa Shrine. It has been ascertained

from ancient documents that the rural landscape seen today has remained unchanged since Heian

Kumano magaibutu

Hewn in a rock Mt. Tahara are two of largest Buddhist stone carvings in all Japan.   A Fudo-myu-o

8 meter in heigt and Dainich-nyurai 6.8 meter height. Said to have been carved in the Heian period,

they have received government designation as Important Cultural Properties.

Futago-ji Temple

The Central temple of Rokugo-Manzan in Kunisaki peninsula.

The temple was established in 718 by Ninmon and located close to the peak of Mount Futago.

Futagoji’s grounds cover a wide area on the forested slopes of the mountain, with stone and

gravel paths and stairs connecting several halls housing various deities.

The temple houses nine Buddhists images said to be masterpieces of the Heian period,

Yufuin travel guide

 

A beautiful and quietly rustic Onsen Resort

One of the most popular among ladies and International tourist visits to here are increasing. 

Yufuin is located near Beppu in a green valley beneath the spectacular Mt. Yufu, a short walk from the

town center will take you to a mix of paddy fields, housing and unmarked Ryokan, with the old temple

thrown in.

Kinrinko lake

One of landmark in Yufuin. Hot water gushes from the bottom of the lake, and hot

steam rises from its surface on a cold day.  The lake is located at the end of the town’s main

walking route, about a kilometer and a half from the Yufuin station

The old public outdoor bath with a thatched roof beside Kinrinko lake in Yufuin.
The bathing here is mixed, as baths often were before the arrival, during the Meiji period

( 1869 – 1912).

Kushida Shrine

The most exciting summer festival in Kyushu, Hakata Gion Yamagasa is held in the shrine

in July. The tall Kazari Yamakasa, a luxuriously decorated float, is always displayed. 

The float was constructed without using even a single nail


 

Hakata Machiya Furusatokan

It is a folk museum depicts the life and culture of Hakata Fukuoka. Exhibition hall, many faces 

and facets of the Hakata way of life can be found, Machiya hall, is a superb example of traditional

architecture and has been moved here and restored to provide a glimpse into  the past.


 

Tochoji Temple

The Temple was founded in 806 by Kobo-daishi Kukai and it is the oldest temple of the Shingon

sect in Japan that  Kobo-daishi set up. The Fukuoka Daibutsu called Great Buddha of Fukuoka

completed in 1993 stands 10.8 meters tall and is the largest seated wooden image of Buddha in Japan.

Fukuoka Castle Ruins

Fukuoka castle, was built in 1601.  Part of stone wall and canal, and the Tamon tower are still

Yusentei Garden

The Japanese traditional Garden; it was originally built in the 1754 for Kuroda Tsugutaka who was

the lord of Fukuoka clan. You can feel Japanese traditional cultures and enjoy Tea Ceremony.

The collected waste including metals is melted at over 1,700 degree Celsius in the Melting

Furnace and then the melted slag and metals are discharged.

The slag is used as raw materials for pavement and bricks and the metals are re-used for

other steel products. The process and technology of the Melting Furnace can be learned. 

 


 

Waste paper recycling / Kyushu Seishi 

Refined waste papers is recycled into toilet papers.
Sludge generated during the toilet paper production process is used to produce a

foaming inhibitor used by steel works.

 


 

 

Hiagari Sewage water treatment plant 

The sewage come through the sewer pipe is purified in the plant and flow into the sea. 

There is an also new technology plant which the electricity is generated using the sludge from sewage.

At the Visitor Center established in 2015, sewage treatment process and technologies can be learned.

Let’s learn how Japan has become the world’s most industrialized country

in the short period.

 

Japanese industry at the end of 19th century was 200years behind.

After Mathew C Perry came to Japan in 1853, Japan’s industrial Revolution was started. 

Since Japan’s modern Steel Industry operation commenced In 1901 in Kitakyushu,

Japan became the world’s leading industrialized country in only 100 years.

Higashida No.1 Blast Furnace

The only one in the world, the Blast Furnace which was actually used until 1972, is preserved

as it was.   This place is the birth place of Japan’s modern steel industry began in 1901 and It

contributed greatly to the development of the Japanese steel industry.


 

Kawachi Reservoir

The reservoir for supplying water to Yawata Steel Works; the construction took 8 years and was

completed in 1927. 

The concept of the designer Hisanori Numata was “Civil engineering is an eternal monument”.

The Dam in harmony with nature, is imaged European Castle. 


 

The First Head Office of the Imperial Steel Works   / World Heritage

Built in 1899, ahead of production facilities. It is an architectural fusion of Japanese and European design, a two story red brick building with bilateral symmetry and a central dome

set in a Japanese tile roof.

     

 

Nippon Steel and Sumitomo Metal / Yawata Works

Japan’s first modern steel making company established in Kitakyushu in 1901. 

Now, becoming the best steel maker with World-leading capabiities.  Process of steel

making can be learned to visit Blast Furnace and Hot rolling mill plants.


 

Yaskawa Electric

World-leading motor and industrial robots manufacturing company established in Kitakyushu 

in 1915. The robots are heavy duty industrial robots used in welding, packing, assembly,

painting and other activities.  Robot manufacturing factory and Yaskawa Innovation Center 

can be visited
