Hiroshima & Miyajima tour itinerary (広島 & 宮島)

Atomic Bomb Dome

 
It is the only structure left standing in the area where the first 
atomic bomb exploded on August 6 1945.

The Atomic Bomb Dome is the ruin of the former Hiroshima 
Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall that was destroyed 
when the first nuclear weapon, atomic bomb, in human 
history was dropped by an American Air Force bomber in 1945.


Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum

 
Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum is located adjacent to the 
world heritage-listed Atomic Bomb Dome, is a war memorial 
museum that reminds the world of the first atomic bombing.
This museum features a variety of exhibits bits such as 
belongings left by the victims and photos that portray the 
horror of nuclear devastation.

Hiroshima Castle

 
 Hiroshima Castle is was constructed in 1589. 
The donjon, which was once designated as National Treasure, 
was completely destroyed by an atomic bomb in 1945.  
The present five-layered donjon was reconstructed in 1958 
and the interior of the donjon is used as Museum of Historical 
Materials, which introduces the culture of warriors.

・Travel to Miyajima by JR train 
・travel to Miyajima Island by the ferry boat

・Miyajima
Miyajima Torii gate

A Shinto shrine dedicated to the three daughter of the deity of 
seas and storms on the sacred Miyajima Island in Seto Inland 
Sea, where gods are believe. The vermillion-painted buildings
connected by corridors and its symbolic great torii gate appear 
as if floating on the sea at high tides. 


Itsukushima Shrine

The shrine complex is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage 
Site.
The shrine has been destroyed several times, but the 
first shrine buildings were probably erected in the 6th century. 
The present shrine dates from the mid-16th century, and is 
believed to follow an earlier design from the 12th century.


Five-story Pagoda

This 27m high Pagoda is said to have been constructed 
in 1407, and beautiful blends Japanese architecture with
that of Tang Dynasty, China. The Pagoda has five levels 
and a hollow construction in interior.

The Kanmon-kyo Bridge is a suspended bridge crossing the

Anego-hama beach

One of the most beautiful beach in Itoshima,  
when walking on the sandy beach a mysterious 
sound like  " kyu kyu " comes out.


Mataichino shio

A salt producing plant by using the sea water from 
Genkai Sea. 
The salt pudding is reccommended.


Keya Cave

The 1st largest basalt cave in Japan consist of octagon 
and hexagon columnar joints.


Sake brewery, Suginoya

Sake is unique Japanese liquor made by fermenting rice.
Suginoya was founded in 1870 in Itoshima, and tasting of 
Sake can be enjoyed here.


Raizan Sennyo-ji temple

The temple is known for cherry blossom viewing in the 
spring, and many people visit in the autumn to see the 
fall foliage.  more

Exploring Yanagawa

Ohana and Shotoen Garden
Listed on National Scenic Landmark, was built in 1697 as 
the villa of the Fourth Lord Tachibana Akitora. The garden 
itself spread out over 3300 square meters and is laid out in 
such a way as to evoke the image of Matsushima in Sendai. 
It was extensively renovated in 1908 to 1910. more

Birthplace of Hakushu Kitahara
Yanagawa is the birthplace of great poet Hakushu Kitahara
whose accomplishments are marked by a memorial park 
and the many stone monuments bearing his works placed 
throughout the city. more

Kushida Shrine

The most exciting summer festival in Kyushu, Hakata Gion
Yamagasa
 is held in the shrine in July.
The tall Kazari Yamakasa, a luxuriously decorated float, 
is always displayed.  The float was constructed without 
using even a single nail.  more

Tochoji Temple

Tochoji Temple was founded in 806 by Kobo-daishi Kukai and 
it is the oldest temple of the Shingon sect in Japan that 
Kobo-daishi set up. The Fukuoka Daibutsu called Great Buddha 
of Fukuoka completed in 1993 stands 10.8 meters tall and is 
the largest seated wooden image of Buddha in Japan. more

Hakata Machiya Furusatokan

Hakata Machiya Furusatokan is a folk museum depicts the 
life and culture of Hakata Fukuoka. Exhibition hall, many faces 
and facets of the Hakata way of life can be found, Machiya 
hall, is a superb example of traditional architecture and has 
been moved here and restored to provide a glimpse into 
the past.   more

Fukuoka Castle Ruins

Fukuoka castle, was built in 1601.   Part of stone wall and 
canal, and the Tamon tower are still left intact
as they were 
back then.
There is also a nice view of the city from the 
former main citadel. Parts of the castle’s former moats were 
used to construct nearby Ohori koen Park.  more

Seaside Momochi 

The water-front resort area, the park is surrounded by
Fukuoka Tower and high rise contemporary highrise buildings, 
all of which help make a modern urban landscape.
