Itsukushima Shrine


Itsukushima Shrine in Hiroshima Prefecture is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the three daughter of the deity of seas and storms on the sacred Miyajima Island in Seto Inland Sea, where gods are believe.


The vermillion-painted buildings connected by corridors and its symbolic great torii gate appear as if floating on the sea at high tides. 


UNESCO World Heritage 

Standing in perfect harmony with its natural surroundings, this elegant palace-style architecture was registered on the list of UNESCO World Heritage in 1996. 


Five-storied Pagoda 

The 27m high Pagoda is said to have been constructed in 1407, and beautifully blended Japanese architecture with that of Tang Dynasty China. The Pagoda

has five levels and a hollow construction in the interior.



The buddhist temple oversaw the Itsukishima. Shrine festival until Shinto and Buddhism were spareted during the Meiji Era. The entrance to the temple is guarded on both sides by Buddhist statues and there are many others in the

main hall such as the wave-cutting God of fire and Eleven-headed Buddha.

The elevated location of the temple offers beautiful views of Miyajima and the 

cityscape on the opposit shore.


Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum


Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum is located adjacent to the world heritage-listed Atomic Bomb Dome, is a war memorial museum that reminds the world of the first atomic bombing.

This museum features a variety of exhibits bits such as belongings left

by the victims and photos that portray the horror of nuclear devastation.


Educating the general public about the nuclear holocaust and calling

on the world to eliminate nuclear weapons, this museum reminds us

of the horrendous tragedy that humanity should never repeat.




Hiroshima Castle


Hiroshima Castle is a Hirayama-jyo or hilltop castle which was constructed in 1589 by Mori Terumoto near the mouse of Ota River.  It is also known as Carp Castle. 
It is said that the castle was built with a reference to Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s mansion for gathering pleasure called Jarakudai.
The donjon, which was once designated as National Treasure, 
was completely destroyed by an atomic bomb in 1945.


The present five-layered donjon was reconstructed in 1958 and the interior

of the donjon is used as Museum of Historical Materials, which introduces

the culture of warriors. In 1994, the front gate of Minomaru, Taiko-yagura turret,

Tarmon-yagura turret and Hira-yagura turret were restored.

At present, the inner moats, Honmaru and Ninomaru remain on this list of National Historic Site.
