The vermillion-painted buildings connected by corridors and its symbolic great torii gate appear as if floating on the sea at high tides.

Standing in perfect harmony with its natural surroundings, this elegant palace-style architecture was registered on the list of UNESCO World Heritage in 1996.

Five-storied Pagoda

The 27m high Pagoda is said to have been constructed in 1407, and beautifully blended Japanese architecture with that of Tang Dynasty China. The Pagoda

has five levels and a hollow construction in the interior.

The elevated location of the temple offers beautiful views of Miyajima and the

cityscape on the opposit shore.

Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum

This museum features a variety of exhibits bits such as belongings left

Hiroshima Castle

Hiroshima Castle is a Hirayama-jyo or hilltop castle which was constructed in 1589 by Mori Terumoto near the mouse of Ota River.  It is also known as Carp Castle.
It is said that the castle was built with a reference to Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s mansion for gathering pleasure called Jarakudai.
The donjon, which was once designated as National Treasure,
was completely destroyed by an atomic bomb in 1945.

The present five-layered donjon was reconstructed in 1958 and the interior

of the donjon is used as Museum of Historical Materials, which introduces

the culture of warriors. In 1994, the front gate of Minomaru, Taiko-yagura turret,

Tarmon-yagura turret and Hira-yagura turret were restored.

At present, the inner moats, Honmaru and Ninomaru remain on this list of National Historic Site.
