Takachiho

The most popular place is Takachiho Gorge. A narrow chasm cut 
through rock by the Gokase River.  
The nearly sheer cliffs lining 
the gorge are made of slow forming
volcanic basalt columns which 
resemble the scales of a dragon
where the stone twisted and

Kagoshima

Kagoshima-city is the southernmost major city in Kyushu which 
can see
Sakura-jima which raises the smoke across the 
Kagoshima Bay. Kagoshima prospered in the Edo period as a 
castle town, and is a hometown of Takamori Saigo who contributed

Ibusuki

It is best known for its steaming sand baths along the beach, 
where bathers in a yukata, or Japanese bathrobe get buried in 
the sand up to their neck.
The sand heated by steam containing 
marine minerals is scientifically proven to have therapeutic effects 
on neuralgia, rheumatism, back pain and other ailments.

Where to explore 

Kushida Shrine

The most exciting summer festival in Kyushu, Hakata Gion
Yamagasa
 is held in the shrine in July.
The tall Kazari Yamakasa, a luxuriously decorated float, is 
always displayed.  The float was constructed without using 
even a single nail.  more 


 

Tochoji Temple

The Temple was founded in 806 by Kobo-daishi Kukai and it is 
the oldest temple of the Shingon sect in Japan that Kobo-
daishi set up. The Fukuoka Daibutsu called Great Buddha of 
Fukuoka completed in 1993 stands 10.8 meters tall and is the 
largest seated wooden of Buddha in Japan.

Hakata Machiya Furusatokan

The folk museum depicts the life and culture of Hakata 
Fukuoka. Exhibition hall, many faces and facets of the 
Hakata way of life can be found, Machiya hall, is a superb 
example of traditional architecture and has been moved 
here and restored to provide a glimpse into the past.

Fukuoka Castle Ruins

Fukuoka castle, was built in 1601.   Part of stone wall and canal, 
and the Tamon tower are still left intact
as they were back 
then.
There is also a nice view of the city from the former 
main citadel.  Parts of the castle’s former moats were used to 
construct.  more 


Seaside Momochi 

The water-front resort area, the park is surrounded by Fukuoka 
Tower
and high rise contemporary highrise buildings, all of which 
help make a modern urban landscape. 
There are many tourist
attractions here.

Nakasu

One of the largest entertainment districts in western Japan, 
bustling at night with young people and business men and women.
Around 2000 eating and drinking establishments including Yatai 
is crammed in this area, Neon light reflect alluringly on the

Shopping
Canal City Hakata 

A complex commercial facility, and is located in the heart of
Fukuoka-city’s
business district. It has two hotels, Other attractions
include Fukuoka City Theater, an
entertainment zone, a cinema
complex, as well as an extensive variety of shops and restaurants

Tenjin

The biggest shopping district in Kyushu region. It offers
department stores, fashion boutiques and 
an extensive variety 
of cuisine and fantastic restaurants and a street food stall Yatai.
Underground Shopping Arcade is also favorite spot.

Marinoa City Fukuoka

An urban living area where you can enjoy a resort lifestyle full of 
fun and entertainment. There are also a large shopping mall, a 
sports equipment store, a car accessories store, an interior 
design shop, a baby specialty mega store, some restaurants, 
a Ferris wheel, and many amusement attractions.   more

 

What to do
Nokonoshima Island

Beautiful flowers all year round can be enjoyed at the 
Nokonoshima Island Park. Cherry blossoms, rapeseed 
blossoms, cosmos, and other seasonal flowers planted the 
natural park. The breathtaking panoramic view of the Hakata 
Bay can also be enjoyed.   more  


Marin World Uminonakamichi

The aquarium reopened after renovation in April 2017.
The exhibition theme is “The Sea of Kyushu, in which
we propose Sea of Comfort in addition to Sea of Learning 
in order to enrich your everyday life, under the slogan of
Naturally with Nature.  more

Sumo Tournament

Sumo is a Japanese traditional martial art.
Professional Sumo Tournament is held six times a year, 
in Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka and Fukuoka.
Fukuoka Tournament is held at Fukuoka International 
Center in November.

Hakata Ramen at Yatai  

Despite a decline in recent year, there are said to be more than 160.

The food stalls have all kind of food, but you have to try Hakata ramen,
usually made with white soup from pork bone and thin noodles.

朝倉地方の状況

7月に発生した九州北部豪雨によって、多大な被害があった朝倉方面
災害発生後初めて訪問しました。

まだまだ災害の傷跡が残っているところが沢山ありますが、
道路の復旧に急ピッチで進められいます。
是非多くの皆さまに訪問してもらいたいとの思いで、その様子を紹介します。

三連水車
  
短期間で復旧がなされ、全ての水車が稼働中、しかし田んぼやぶどう畑など大きな被害にあった。

山田堰
  
筑後平野に水を送るために、江戸時代に筑後川に造られた堰。石積の堰は日本でここだけ。
流木も撤去さて、ほぼ平常に機能している。

原鶴温泉
 
全ての宿泊施設で平常通り営業中、但し今年の鵜飼は中止された。

うきは市田主丸のぶどう園
 
特に大きな被害もなく、通常通り営業中。

にじの耳納の里
  
うきは市の野菜や果物を取り揃えているところ、平常通り営業中

ちくご手づくり村
  
麺づくり体験もできるところ。

ハトマメ屋
  
創業・明治18年、朝倉名物のお菓子屋さん、是非お土産にどうぞ。

東峰村
  
最も被害が大きかった場所の一つ、まだまだ復旧に時間がかかりそう。

研修のテーマ:「どのようにして世界一のスピードで産業近代化を成し遂げたのか

今回一番苦労したところ、戦争と原爆のことを言及する必要があること。
日本は、原爆の被害者であるが、今回参加した人達の国に対しては加害者でもある。
このことに触れなければ、日本の近代化は語れない。
冒頭に日本人として戦争加害の謝罪と状況説明から始め、富国強兵で産業近代化を行い原爆までを紹介し、戦争と核の悲惨さを共有することができた。

それから、様々な事柄を3日間で学んでもらいました。
 ・なぜ、どのようにして、日本人が世界一のスピードで近代化を成し遂げたのか。
 ・戦争と近代化がどのような関にわりがあったのか。
 ・なぜ、広島と長崎に原爆が落とされたのか。
 ・どのようにして、戦後復興を行ったのか。
 ・宗教と急速な近代化の関連性
