Travel guide ; Kitakyushu-city

Kitakyushu-city, the gateway to Kyushu, opposite to Shimonoseki in Yamaguchi-ken
across the Kanmon Strait, is 2nd largest city in Kyushu. The city was created in
1963 from the five smaller cities of Kokura , Moji, Tobata, Wakamatsu and Yahata.
It retains this sense of being a country area with much diversity and beautiful nature
including Mt. Sarakura, Hiraodai Karst Plateau and Cave, despite its reputation
as the birth place of the steel making industry in Japan.
Kitakyushu-city offers you various kinds of fascinating attractions that you can enjoy.
Kokura, the heart of Kitakyushu, was an ancient feudal castle
town, and Kokura Castle and its beautiful garden are located next to the big shopping
center River Walk Kitakyushu.
Moji-ko is a port town that prospered as a trading port in Meiji era and has become one
of must visit tourist attractions as the Mojiko Retro where the buildings made in
Meiji era remain such as Mitsui Club and Kyushu Railway Museum.
