Yamanami Highway

 

Yamanami Highway is the Prefectural road Route 11 and one of the most

beautiful scenic driving roads in Kyushu.

The road is connected Yufuin in Oita-prefecture and Minamioguni town in Aso,

Kumamoto-prefecture, the distance is 50 km.

You can enjoy the magnificent natural scenery that changes with the seasons.

Kikuchi Valley

Enjoy short trekking in the Nature. Kikuchi Valley is located in Aso Kuju National Park.

Underground water flows out of the subsoil for 4km along the valley floor.

It is also called the Kikuchi water source and its water was selected as one of the 100 best

waters in Japan.

There are two routes to follow: a 30 minute and a 60 minute loop along the river bank and back

down the other side.

Kikuchi Valley is an ideal place for a summer resort. Also it has a walking trail, forest park and

wild bird park, etc.  Since over 50 kinds of wild birds are living in the valley, many people visit

for bird watching.

Mount Naka

 

Mount Naka is a part of Mount Aso.

Mount Aso is consist of five consecutive mountain located in the Caldera where is

25 km across north to south and 18 km across east to west.

The most exciting mountain is Mount Naka with an altitude os 1506m which is the

largest active volcano in Japan.

You can see the Crater from the top, depending on the weather condition.

Kusasenri-ga-hama

 

The beautiful prairie of 785,000 square meter in the crater. Spreads in northern part of

Mt. Eboshi that is one of the Aso five Mountains.

A big pond at its center and grazing horses round about make an idyllic scene.

Visitors can enjoy the various seasons from its vivid green summer to the fantastic silvery

winter, as well as riding horses and strolling around throughout the year.

Daikanbo

 

Daikanbo is located on the northern part of outer edge of the Aso Caldera.

The perfect spot view the northern part of caldera and the Aso five mountains.

The must visiting tourist spot in Aso, Daikanbo  literally means a big

observatory peak. The circumference of the Aso caldera is about 130 kilometers.

From the observation site, you can clearly see its conical shape. Early in the morning,

the clouds had spread out below us, and hung over the caldera as if they were

a large sea.

Sensui-kyo ravine

Sensui-kyo is the ravine located in a place with an altitude of 900m of the foot in Mout Aso

Nakadake, where a dynamic view of the Aso valley and northern part of Aso Caldera can look 

down under their view.

Along with Unzen and the Kirishima plateau, Sensui-kyo is one of the most beautiful places

of azalea in Kyushu; about 50,000 shares of azaleas dye whole area pink from the middle of

May to the beginning of June.
