Yufuin Onsen

Yamanami Highway

 

Yamanami Highway is the Prefectural road Route 11 and one of the

most beautiful scenic driving roads in Kyushu.

The road is connected Yufuin in Oita-prefecture and Minamioguni town

in Aso, Kumamoto-prefecture, the distance is 50 km.

You can enjoy the magnificent natural scenery that changes with the

Yunotsubo Avenue

 

Main street in Yufuin located at the foot of mount Yufu. The avenue is started near

JR Yufuin Station and connected to Kinrinko lake. Through Yunotsubo Avenue, it

takes about 30 minutes on foot from JR Yufuin Station to Kinrinko lake.

 


 

There are 70 shops, gift shop, galleries, curiosity item shops as well as cafes.

 


 

Along the Oita River, which is one street away, it is a recommended walking

spot where you can enjoy the seasonal scenery, and you can find a tranquil

atmosphere of Yufuin.

Beppu Yufuin driving road is connected from Beppu Onsen and to

Yufuin Onsen through scenic beatiiful area, about 40 minutes drive

can be enjoyed.

Kinrinko lake

 

Kinrinko lake is the landmark in Yufuin. Hot water gushes from the bottom

of the lake, and hot steam rises from its surface on a cold day. The lake is

located at the end of the town’s main walking routeabout a kilometer and

a half from the Yufuin station.

 


 
Walking paths surround the lake as well as more small shops and cafes
and there is a small shrine located at the lake’s southern end

Yufuin Floral Village

 

Floral Village is the amusement facility that recreated the street of the

Cotswolds region in England, which was also used as the location for

Harry Potter. Cute owls welcome you in OWL’s FORESR.

 


 

You can enjoy strolling, gourmet and shopping with beautiful flowers in

the Village, and there is Alice in Wonderland shop here.

 

 
 

Seiro-mushi, Yufuin Kagura

 

Seiro-mushi refers to a cooking technique in which food ingredients are put

into a bamboo basket used for steaming through water vapor from below

 


 

At Yufuin Kagura, Seiro-mushi is prepared with large bamboo baskets in front

of diners.

Featured by the enriched flavor with warmth and fragrance of the cypress

basket (seiro). Live the lively, hot spring steam-like, “Jigoku steams” (literally

hell’s steams) dishes right in front of you with the traditional local taste of

Beppu, Oita Prefecture.

Shitan-yu is the old public outdoor bath with a thatched roof beside Kinrinko lake. The bathing

here is mixed, as baths often were before the arrival, during the Meiji period (1869 – 1912),

of American and Europeans who shames the Japanese into segregating their baths.
