  Nagasaki-bana Cape is the southernmost point of the Satsuma Peninsula. A walking path leads from a small cluster of souvenir shops to the tip of the cape where there stands a white lighthouse.            To the Cape                  Lighthouse         View from the sea   A highlight of a visit to the cape are the views of nearby Mount Kaimondake, which stands 924 meters above sea level.   Ryugu Shrine is located at Nagasaki-bana Cape, the southernmost point of Satsuma peninsula. Nagasaki-bana Cape is said to be the birthplace of the legend of Urashima Taro who saved a turtle, it took him to Ryugu-jo (the Palace of the Dragon as a token of it’s gratitude).   Nishi-Oyama Station is the southernmost railway station in Japan operated by JR, boasts a breath taking view of Kaimon-dake volcano to the front.     The post box standing in front of the station is painted yellow similar to the turnip rape flower that stands as symbol of Ibusuki.  This post box has seen an explosion in popularity because some believe it brings happiness to those who send mail from it.

  Ikeda-ko lake is a caldera lake located 40 km south of Kagoshima-city. It is best known to tourists as the location of the purported sightings of a monster named Issie, and as the largest lake in Kyushu with a surface area of 11 km² and a shoreline length of 15 km.      It is also known as large eel with a length of 2 meter and circumference of 50 cm inhabit the lake.

                                                                                                                                          HOME    Japan’s unique practice of the Christian faith continued even during the ban on Christianity Hidden Christian Site in Nagasaki Regions bear unique testimony to the tradition of people and their communities who secretly transmitted their faith in Christianity while surviving in the midst of the conventional society and its religions during the time of prohibition.     Oura Cathedral It was built in 1865 under the supervision of the French priest Bernard Petitjean. On March 17, 1865, a group of peasants from Urakami came to the church and professed their faith to Father Petitjean,  thus revealing that Christianity had survived through the centuries of persecution. The white marble statue of the Holy Mother at the entrance was built in commemoration of the dramatic discovery of the  “Hidden Christians.     Martyrdom of the 26 Saints of Japan Nishizaka Hill in Nagasaki is the place of Martyrdom of 26 Japanese Saints. The Twenty-Six Martyrs of Japan were a group of Catholics who were executed by crucifixion on February 5, 1597.Their martyrdom is especially significant in the history of the Catholic Church in Japan. In 1950, Pope Pius XII designated this place as an official pilgrimage site for Catholics. And Saint Teresa of Calcutta commonly known as Mother Teresa visited here in 1982.   By putting them to death, Hideyoshi threatened people, saying “I hereby ban Christianity”.  Responded the martyrs’ chant “All …
