Kanmon Straits, in Kikakyushu

 

The Kanmon Straits, separating Honshu and Kyushu, is a bustling waterway with

as many as 700 vessels of all sizes passing through each day.

There are seven ways to cross the straits, including the 1,068-meter-long Kanmonkyo

Bridge (exclusive to motor vehicles), the Shin-Kanmon Tunnel for Shinkansen bullet

trains, the Kanmon Pedestrian Tunnel for those crossing on foot, and various

ferry services.
