This information is provided by Japan KYUSHU Tourist to support your journey.       Aso is located almost in the center of Kyushu and boasts one of the world’s largest calderas, stretching 18 km east-west and 24 km north-south. It was created by four periods of explosive volcanic activity in ancient times. The caldera is surrounded by an outer rim with a circumference of around 120 km. Within the Aso Caldera, there are the Aso Five Peaks, including Mt. Naka-dake—an active volcano where the crater can be viewed from the top. Daikanbo Peak, on the northern part of the outer rim, is a must-visit location offering panoramic views of the magnificent scenery, including the Aso Five Peaks and the serene, beautiful green plains below.

Oshima Island

  Oshima Island located 11 km from Konominato Port in Munakata-city, and is the largest island in Fukuoka-prefecture. The population of the island is around 700. It takes 25 minutes by Oshima ferry and 15 minutes by Shiokaze ferry. There are two World Heritage Shrines, Munakata Shrine Nakatsu-gu and Munakata Shrine  Okitsu-gu Yohaishho, those Shrines are registered as Sacred Island Okinoshiam and Associated site in the Munakata Region. You can enjoy beautiful nature at any places where you visit including Windmil Observatory and Mitake Observatory.

Kanmon Straits, in Kikakyushu

There are seven ways to cross the straits, including the 1,068-meter-long Kanmonkyo Bridge (exclusive to motor vehicles), the Shin-Kanmon Tunnel for Shinkansen bullet trains, the Kanmon Pedestrian Tunnel for those crossing on foot, and various ferry services.

Hokohara martyrdom place in Omura

  This is a place related to the Kori-kuzure incident in Omura in 1657 in which a large number of hidden Christians were arrested. As many as 608 Christians were arrested, making it a rare and major incident in the history of Christian oppression. 411 Christians were beheaded, and 131 of them were martyred at Hokohara martyrdom place.     As a result of this incident, the Omura domain began implementing even stricter policies prohibiting Christianity. The believers have erected the monument to commemorate the martyrdom at this location.
