Dazaifu is one of the most captivating destinations in Fukuoka to experience traditional Japanese culture. Yanagawa is a beautiful canal town featuring flat fields facing the calm Ariake Sea. The area was created by reclaiming the shallow waters of the sea, with canals originally constructed for daily life and agriculture. Once a castle town of the Tachibana Domain, Yanagawa is now famous for its “Donko-bune” canal boat cruises and steamed eel cuisine.     Canal boat cruise  On a Yanagawa canal cruise, you board a small boat called a “Donko-bune” and drift slowly down the river. The boat is skillfully maneuvered by a boatman using a single bamboo pole. The four sites of Yawata Steel Works in Kitakyushu area have been inscribed as Iron and Steel Industry. Iron and Steel, Shipbuilding, and Coal Mining, are a grouping of historic sites that played an important part  in the industrialization of Japan in the Bakumatsu and Meiji periods.   One of the three largest karst plateau in Japan along with the Akiyoshi-dai Plateau and the  Shikoku Karst. It is located in south-eastern part of Kitakyushu-city.  At altitudes between  400 and 600 meters above sea level and stretching 6 km from north to south and 2 km from east to west.     Yougunbaru, which was so names because of the limestone which stands in row like a flock of sheep in a vast meadow, dolines (conical hollows) and limestone caves create distinctive scenery. The Plateau offers a different views in each of the four seasons, resembling a burnt  field in the spring, appearing fresh and green in the early summer, and similar to a dry plain in the fall.      Hiraodai Countryside Park There is 22ha of lawn square with observation platform, and a wild grass garden.
