Company visit to NISSAN Motor Kyushu

 

The roots of NISSAN is Tobata Casting funded in Kitakyushu in 1911.
The factory is located in Kanda-cho, Fukuoka Prefecture facing the Suo-nada Sea,

 and Commenced operation started in 1975.

 

Now TEANA, X-TRAIL ROGUE, SERENA and MURANO are being manufactured.  

The process from assembly of the parts to final products can be seen.

Waste paper recycling by Kyushu Seishi 

 

Refined waste papers is recycled into toilet papers.
Sludge generated during the toilet paper production process is used to produce a

foaming inhibitor used by steel works.

waste sector and Kitakyushu-city is the advanced city of solid waste management in Japan.

In Kitaykushu-city, the comprehensive Solid waste management system and Recycling

technologies can be learned from waste collecting procedure at household to the final stage

Where to visit and what to learn

 

Day 1

 

Eco Town Center

Eco Project information center that supports the Eco-town.  It introduces initiatives and activities

implemented in Eco-town to encourage people to proactively used the facility for such activities

as environmental study sessions and interaction amongst visitors.

 


 

Hiagari Recycling Center for waste cans and bottles

The Recycling Center where separates cans, bottles and PET bottles collected in

Kitakyushu-city for recycling. And also paper containers and Styrofoam food packs are

separated at this facility.

 

 

 

Plastic PET Bottle recycling / Nishi-Nippon PET Recycling

PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles are sorted by municipalities and recycled into

pellets and flakes, which can be used as raw materials for polyester fibers and egg cartons.

 


 

Citizen community Center 

Introduce the Duties of Citizen and Self-government organization for recycling & waste management.

The birth place where Japan’s steel industry began in 1901
It contributed greatly to the development of the Japanese steel industry and was used until 1972,
and has been preserved just as it was. The big signboard at the top of the Blast Furnace displaying  
1901” indicates the year in which the Blast Furnace commenced operation.

Equipment and tools which were actually used are exhibited in the square, and you can see

the iron-making process from the raw material ore and coketo production of pig iron.

Melting Furnace  / Sin-Moji Plant 

The collected waste including metals is melted at over 1,700 degree Celsius in the Melting

Furnace and then the melted slag and metals are discharged.

The slag is used as raw materials for pavement and bricks and the metals are re-used for

other steel products. The process and technology of the Melting Furnace can be learned. 

 


 

Mojiko Retro

The exotic district, developed as International trading Port where the most famous tourist destination

in Kitakyushu-city.

Dr. Albert Einstein awarded Nobel Prize in Physic visited Moji in 1922, and he acclaimed that

everything could see were ARTS.

Fukuoka Hydrogen Station

World’s first hydrogen station for vehicle to utilize the wastewater treated in the

Fukuoka Chubu Sewage Treatment Center.

The process has been developed as a result of the verification testing of technology

for hydrogen creation sourced from wastewater biogas.

 


 

Oki Recycling Center Kururun

The biomass recycling facility that started operations in November 2006.It takes kitchen waste

from the town’s households and restaurants, along with septic tank sludge and raw sewage,

and uses a methane fermentation process to turn it into a biomass that can be used for power

generation. After the fermentation, the digestive fluids are used as liquid fertilizer. Furthermore,

Oki Town was the second in the country to make a zero-waste declaration, which it officially

announced in March 2008 with its Oki Town Mottainai Declaration.

Kitakyushu Eco-Town Center

 

Eco Project information center that supports the Eco-town. 

It introduces initiatives and activities implemented in Eco-town to encourage people to

proactively used the facility for such activities as environmental study sessions and

interaction amongst visitors.

 

Kitakyushu Eco-Town is a project being developed after the city received approval from the central

government. It is composed of two main areas; a corporate park (Comprehensive Environmental

Industrial Complex, Hibiki Recycling Area) located in Hibikinada area in Wakamatsu Ward where the

majority of the companies engaged in the recycling business based on the Eco-Town Project, and a

practical research area where enterprises and universities conduct research.

 

First Eco-Town Center in Japan opened in June, 2001

With an eye to building a “resource-recycling society,” Kitakyushu City is engaged in the

‘Kitakyushu Eco-Town Project’ in which an environmentally-friendly society is formed by bringing

together recycling plants and research institutes. The Kitakyushu Eco-Town Center plays the role of

an information center that supports the Eco-Town. It introduces initiatives and activities implemented

in Eco-Town to encourage people to proactively use the facility for such activities as environmental

study sessions and interaction amongst visitors.

 

With visitors coming from all over Japan, the center takes reservations for visits as well as provides

tours of recycling plants and research facilities. Inside the center, technologies and products related

to the environment and recycling are exhibited while the details of the project of the Kitakyushu

Eco-Town Center are introduced on panels hanging on the wall. Furthermore, the center provides

facilities available for environmental study, exchange activities and research work.

In April 2007, based on this theme of “innovation,” the Kitakyushu Innovation Gallery & Studio

(KIGS) opened in Yahata, Higashida, the first site of steel manufacturing in Japan’s modern age.

Onga River Pump Station

 

Built in 1910 on the east bank of the Onga River.
It served, and still serves, to deliver industrial water to Yawata via an 11.4 km pipeline.

This supply is integral to the steel production process and was necessary to cope with the 

1st phase expansion of the Imperial Steel Works.
