Sensui-kyo is the ravine located in a place with an altitude of 900m of the foot in Mout Aso Nakadake, where a dynamic view of the Aso valley and northern part of Aso Caldera can look down under their view. Along with Unzen and the Kirishima plateau, Sensui-kyo is one of the most beautiful places of azalea in Kyushu; about 50,000 shares of azaleas dye whole area pink from the middle of May to the beginning of June.

Ohana and Shotoen Garden

Yanagawa travel guideListed on National Scenic Landmark. Built in 1697 as the villa of the Fourth Lord Tachibana Akitora. At that time the region was called Hanabatake (Field of flower), so the villa was named Ohana or Flower. The garden itself spread out over 3300 square meters and is laid out in such a way as to evoke the image of Matsushima in Sendai. It was extensively renovated in 1908 to 1910. There are around 280 pines within the garden 1500 stones and 14 stone lanterns. From October to March the pond is host to a flock of wild ducks.

Takachiho shrine

Takachiho travel guideThe shrine has a long history, having been established 1,900 years ago. It enshrines the deities of agriculture, marriage, traffic safety, and protection against misfortune. Located just west of the town center, it is nestled in a grove of tall cedars. During the day, the shrine’s simple, unpainted buildings blend naturally with the surrounding trees. The filtering light brings with it an air of calm, peaceful reverence. Today, this legend is reenacted through Yokagura, a series of 33 dances depicting the divine conflict and other deeds of the gods. On winter weekends, people gather to watch all-night performances held at different locations each week, including private homes. These performances take place on Saturday evenings from mid-November to mid-February. Hakata Dontaku Festival

JapanHakata Dontaku Festival, the name Dontaku is a corruption of the Dutch word Zontag, meaning Sunday. The festival is said to have started as a New Year parade of merchants going to the local lord’s residence to celebrate. It is held on May 3 and 4 in Hakata, Fukuoka-city. About 30,000 of local townspeople take part, and its attractions include the traditional Matsuribayashi parade, a fancy-dress parade and a shamoji band. Matsuribayashi is a parade of children and adults intraditional dress, led by the three gods Fuku-no-Kami, Ebisu and Daikoku, on horseback. The kasahoko, a float that forms part of the Matsuribayashi parade. It is believed in Fukuoka that babies carried under the kasahoko will grow up strong and healthy. The shamoji band parade around the town beating time with the shamoji, the wooden spatulas used for serving rice.
