Kabuki is one of Japanese traditional stage arts along with Nho, Kyogen and Bunraku. It is said to have originated in Kyoto with a woman named Okuni at the beginning of the 17th century. However, it is now performed only by male actors, so it amazing that the very first performance was by a woman.

Nagasaki travel guidePeace Fountain reminds us of the tragic scene unfolded shortly after America dropped the Atomic Bomb on Nagasaki at 11:02 am on Aug. 09, 1945. With the completion of the Peace Fountain on Aug. 3, 1969, a monument inscribed with an epitaph was constructed. Many people were burned deeply and died, crying and groaning for water. When people recovered their peaceful life in 1965, a campaign for a Peace Fountain was launched. Recorded on the monument are the name of the founder including the People’s Congress for Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons and Promotion of Peace and the Committee for the Construction of the Peace Fountain.

Ohana and Shotoen Garden

Yanagawa travel guideListed on National Scenic Landmark. Built in 1697 as the villa of the Fourth Lord Tachibana Akitora. At that time the region was called Hanabatake (Field of flower), so the villa was named Ohana or Flower. The garden itself spread out over 3300 square meters and is laid out in such a way as to evoke the image of Matsushima in Sendai. It was extensively renovated in 1908 to 1910. There are around 280 pines within the garden 1500 stones and 14 stone lanterns. From October to March the pond is host to a flock of wild ducks.
