Saga-city travel guide

 

Saga-city in Kyushu is the seat of the Saga-prefectural government.

It faces the Ariake Sea on the south and is home to Saga Airport. In the center of the city is

the Saga Castle History Museum, which also serves as the city’s symbol. The castle itself is

no longer standing, but the main keep has been reconstructed, resulting in one of the largest

wooden structures in Japan. Saga is also known as the plece where it has made a great

contribution to the Japanese Industrial Revolution.

 


 

Saga Castle History Museum

Japan’s Industrial Modernization activity was started here in Saga. The largest restored wooden

building in Japan at 2,500m2, the museum offers the unparalleled chance to experience a Japanese

castle from more than 175 years ago.


 

Saga Shrine

The shrine is designated as the special government shrine. The shrine dedicated to Naomasa

Nabeshima, who oversaw the manufacture of Japan’s first modern Cannon.


 

Mietsu Naval Dock  UNESCO World Heritage

UNESCO World Heritage, Site of Japan’s Meiji Industrial Revolution. Before Meiji Restoration,

the Mietsu Naval Dock served as a venue for naval drilling and maintenance of Western-style ship,

as the naval base of Saga Clan. Japan’s first practical steam ship, the Ryofu-maru was constructed

there in 1865.

     

 

Tsukiji Reflectance Furnace

This is the Japan’s first constructed Reflectance Furnace and it was used for Japan’s first

Cannon manufacturing. The reflectance furnace was greatly contributed for initial stage of

Japan’s Industrial Modernization.

     

 

Yoshinogari Remains

The largest archeological remains in Japan. Lie on the spacious hilly area in the northeastern

part of Saga. Remains of a ringed-dugout settlement presumably dating back to the 3rd century

B.C. were unearthed there, and excavation is still underway at the site.


 

Saga International Balloon Fiesta

The largest hot air balloon competition in all of Asia with over 100 participating balloon teams

from all over the world.

Hyuga

A bay city, facing the Hyuga nada Sea. The whole area along Cape Hyuga with

Takachiho

Located in the center of the Kyushu mountain area where about 40km away from

Aso and is steeped in Japanese mythology.

It is the supposed site of legend where Amaterasu, the Shrine Sun Goddess, disturbed by her

brother’s cruel pranks, hid herself in a cave, prompting the other gods and goddesses to try and

lure her out.

 

Takachiho Gorge

The narrow chasm cut through the rock by the Gokase RiverThe nearly sheer cliffs lining the gorge

are made of slow forming volcanic basalt columns which resemble the scales of a dragon where the

stone twisted and flowed as it formed.

 


 

Takachiho Shrine

 located just west of the town center, is nestled in a grove of tall cedars. During the day the shrine’s 

nondescript, unpainted buildings blend in naturally with the surrounding trees. The light that filters through,

brings with it an air of calm, peaceful reverence.

Legends of Japanese mythology. In the story, Amaterasu, the Shito sun goddess, became so outraged

by her brother’s cruel pranks that she hid herself in a cave, refusing to come out and depriving the

Where to explore 

Mount Sarakura

The hight of the mountain is 622 meters from sea level. In 10 minutes, you can reach the summit 

from the Cable Car Station using the Cable car and the Slope car.  At the top you are presented

with a magnificent and spectacular view of Kitakyushu. ​

Higashida

Japan’s modern steel industry was started as Yawata steel Works at Higashida district in 1901. 

Since then, the Works greatly contributed to Japan’s industrial modernization until rapid  postwar

economic growth. The three sites in Higashida have been registered on UNESCO World Heritage  

as Sites of Japan’s Meiji Industrial Revolution.

Kokura Caltle

Fukuoka–prefecture only in Japan is selected by CNN Travel as one of the top 19 places

to visit in 2019And the Photo of Kokura Castle is used for introducing Fukuoka-prefecture

Kokura Castle is one of the most famous land marks in Kitakyushu. The construction was

commenced in 1602 and spent 7 years to completed it.  

 


 

Dr. Albert Einstein awarded Nobel Prize in Physic visited Moji in 1922, and he acclaimed that

everything could see were Arts. The exotic district of Mojiko Retro is visited by more than 2 

million tourists a year. Moji-ko Port flourished following its 889 designation as a Special National

Port for exporting coal and other products. 

     

 

Konamon Pedstrian tunnel

Only the place in the world !   You can cross the strait on foot.  The Kanmon Strait, separating Honshu

and Kyushu, is a very beautiful and busy waterway with as many as 700 small and  large ships a

day passing through it. the Kanmon Pedestrian Tunnel, which enables people to cross on foot, the

“ferries”, and the like.​

 

 

 

Kanmon Bridge

It is s a suspended bridge crossing the  Kanmon Strait, a stretch of water separating two of

Japan’s four main islands.  It is the 34th largest suspension bridge in the world with a central

span of 712 meters.​

Sakurai Futamigaura

A beautiful sunset scenic spot at Genkai Sea, the place is selected as Japan’s 100 scenic

The salt making plant by the ancient production method. A salt and a magnesium chloride are

Keya Cave cruise

Raizan Sennyo-ji temple

One of the most famous temple in Fukuoka-prefecture known for being a great place for cherry

blossom viewing in the spring, and many people visit in the autumn to see the fall foliage.

Beppu Hell tour 

Hell (Jigoku Meguri ) tour that is a collection of hot spring where the water bubbles forth from

Ibusuki travel guide

 

Ibusuki and surrounded araa Satsuma peninsula extends about 50 kilometers south from

Kagoshima-citymaking up the southwestern section of Kagoshima-prefecture. The peninsula offers

a mixture of hot springs, subtropical natural attractions and cultural sites.

Ibusuki is an onsen resort that is famous for its sand baths, where bathers are buried in naturally

heated sand.

It is best known for its steaming sand baths along the beach, where bathers in a yukata, or Japanese

bathrobe get buried in the sand up to their neck.  The sand heated by steam containing marine minerals 

is scientifically proven to have therapeutic effects on neuralgia, rheumatism, back pain and other ailments.

Ikeda-ko lake

A circumference of 15 km and a maximum depth of 233 meter, where was created by

volcanic activity long ago. Large eel with a length of 2 meter and circumference of 50 cm

inhabit the lake. It was also known as the lake of a legendary monster called ” Issy” 

purported to live in the lake.

The cape is the southernmost point of Satsuma peninsula, where a white lighthouse stands.

You can enjoy the view of the magnificent Mount Kaimondake and rocks with the sea spray

wearing them. The Cape is said to be the birthplace of the legend of Ryugu.

Enjoy tasting Shochu at the most famous Shochu brewery in Kagoshima Meiji-gura is

Kagoshima travel guide

 

Kagoshima is the southernmost prefecture in Kyushu which can see Sakura-jima 

which raises the smoke across the Kagoshima Bay. Kagoshima prospered in the Edo period as

a castle town, and is a hometown of Takamori Saigo who contributed to the Meiji Restoration

Sengan-en   UNESCO World Heritage

Sengan-en is the most famous garden in Kagoshima-ken, made by Shimazu lord in the 19th century

at the beautiful bayside Kinko bay. The garden contains many historic artifacts that tell of its long history.

Sakura-jima Island

An active strato volcano with three peaks, Kita-dake, Naka-dake and still active Minami-dake.

Formerly an island, it became connected with the Osumi Peninsula in 1914 when lava from its

The southernmost Cape of main land Japan at 31′ 00″ latitude. Cape Sata is home to many sub-tropical

Aso gives unforgettable experiences

The active volcano Mount Aso and world’s largest caldera offer a lot of excitements. And numerous

unforgettable experiences in the rural area can be mede including Onsen, variety of sports and local

cuisines.

 


 

Exploring Aso  

Mount Aso

The largest active volcano in Japan. Its peak is 1592 m above sea level. Its caldera is 25 km across

north to south and 18 km across east to west. The caldera has a circumference of around 120 km, 

although sources vary on the exact distance.

Kusasenri-ga-hama 

The beautiful prairie of 785,000 square meter in the crater spreads in northern part of Mt. Eboshi that

is one of the Aso Five Mountains. A big pond at its center and grazing horses round about make an

idyllic scene.


 

Daikanbo 

The perfect spot view the five peak of Mount Aso. Daikanbo literally means a big observatory peak.

The circumference of the Aso caldera is about 130 kilometers. From the observation site, you can

clearly see its conical shape.

Tourist Tram  Minami Aso Rail Way

Enjoy the magnificent scenery of Aso. The Minami Aso railway is a private railroad offering a

very scenic ride from Takamori to Nakamatsu in the south east of the caldera.

Lovely and magnificent scenery can be enjoyed.

 

 

Featured restaurant / Takamori Dengaku-no sato 

Enjoy Aso beef and local cuisines. The restaurant uses the old private house with thatched roof

built more than 200 years ago. Bake the meat and local ingredients with charcoal at a Japanese

traditional style fire place.


 

Kikuchi Valley

Enjoy short trekking in the Nature. Kikuchi Valley is located in Aso Kuju National Park and underground

water flows out of the subsoil for 4km along the valley floor.  It is also called the Kikuchi water source

and its water was selected as one of the 100 best waters in Japan.
