Oita-prefecture is on the north-eastern section of KyushuIt is bordered by Miyazaki-prefecture

to the south, and Fukuoka-prefecture and Kumamotoprefecture to the west. The prefecture is

a representative Onsen Resort area in Japan, total boasting hot spring sources and hot spring

flowing volume are both Japan’s largest. Most recommended Onsen Resorts are Beppu and

Yufuin.

 


 

Where to Explore

 

Beppu

Onsen Resort where the largest hot spring yield in Japan. The popular

hot spring town nestle at the foot of volcanosMount Yufu and Mount

TsurumiBoasting more than 2,800 hot spring sources and flowing

rate of nearly 137,000 kiloliters per day, Beppu is considered a paradise

of hot springs famous for high therapeutic effects.


 

Yufuin

A beautiful and tranquil Onsen Resort, Yufuin is located about 15 km

west of Beppu and is spreading in the Yufu basin at the mountain foot

of Yufu.  Onsen Resort life can be enjoyed at the beautiful and tranquil 

place harmonized with nature in the basin of mountain hill area.


 

Okubungo

Nature-blessed region at Ono River basin, the northern part is

surrounded  by Aso & Kuju Mountains. Okubungo consists of Takada, 

Kuju, Kusu, Kokonoe, Bungo-ono and Ogata.


 

Usa and Ajimu

Located at the base of  Kunisaki peninsula and spreading around

 Usa ShrineSince ancient time the Kunisaki peninsula has been

home of Kyushu’s prominent Usa Shrineinfluencing the surrounding

hills and valleys with Buddhist culture. Although this is a Shinto shrine, 

it has long been holy ground to both Shinto and Buddhist activities.


 

Kunisaki peninsula

Rural area centered on mount Futago, pilgrimage, trekking, onsen,

local cuisines can be enjoyed.  Kunisaki peninsula began to develop

1,300 years ago as a sacred religious ground influenced by by 

mountain and nature worship, Buddhism, and Usa shrine rising in

Nakatsu & Yabakei

A small city on the north coast of Oita-prefecture, just east of its border

with  Fukuoka-prefectureDuring the Edo Period of Japanese history,

Nakatsu was a mid-sized domain, and the town itself has recently

expanded to include  outlying towns and districts and now comprises 

almost 500 square kilometers with a population of almost 85,000.

Kagoshima-prefecture is located at the southwest tip of Kyushu on the Satsuma Peninsula

and Osumi Peninsula. This prefecture also includes a chain of islands stretching further to

the southwest of Kyushu for a few hundred kilometers. The prefecture boasts a chain of

active and dormant volcanoes, including the great Sakura-jima Island, which towers out of

the Kagoshima bay opposite Kagoshima-city.

 


 

Where to explore

 

Kagoshima

The city is southernmost capital in Kyushu ;  Sakura-jima which

raises the smoke across the Kagoshima Bay. Kagoshima

prospered in the Edo period as a castle town, and is a

hometown of Takamori Saigo who contributed to the Meiji

Restoration.


 

Ibusuki and Satsuma peninsula

Ibusuki and surrounded area Satsuma peninsula extends about

50 kilometers south from Kagoshima-city, making up the south-western

section of Kagoshima Prefecture. The peninsula offers a mixture of hot

springssubtropical natural attractions and cultural sitesIbusuki is an

Onsen resort that is famous for its sand baths.


 

Chiran

Called a small Kyoto in Kagoshima, offer you a fine collection of

Samurai houses and gardens that were built about 260 years ago. 

During World War 2, Chriran was a Kamikaze pilots based 

who participated in the Battle for Okinawa. 


 

Kirishima

Located in the northeastern part of Kagoshima and is the entrance

to the Kirishima district of Kirishima Yaku National Park, which

includes the Kirishima volcanic chain,  Sakura-jima Island

and Yaku shima Islands.

Kumamoto-prefecture is in the center of Kyushu, It is bordered by the Ariake inland sea

and the Amakusa archipelago to the west, Fukuoka-prefecture and Oita-prefecture to

the north, Miyazaki-prefecture to the east, and Kagoshima-prefecture to the south.

The capital of Kumamoto-prefecture is Kumamoto-city. Mount Aso, an extensive active

volcano, is in the east of Kumamoto-prefecture. This volcano is located at the center of

the Aso caldera.

Kumamoto-city

Situated roughly in the center of Kumamoto-prefecture, is the 

government and economic center of the prefecture. From the early

17th century to the end of the 19th century, Kumamoto was

prosperous as a castle town. The Shira-kawa River and its

branches run through the downtown area around Kumamoto Castle.


 

Aso

One of the must visit tourist destination in Kyushu. The world’s

largest caldera and the active volcano give a lot of excitements. 

And numerous unforgettable experiences in the rural area

can be mede including Onsen, variety of sports and local

cuisines.


 

Kurokawa Onsen

One of the most popular hot spring resort, located on the northern 

side of  Mount AsoWidely known for its open-air baths, it is one

of the best places to enjoy the atmosphere of old town in Japan,

where more than 20 Inns (Ryokan)and gift shops standing in

a row along the Tanoharu River, a headstream of the Chikugo River.


 

Amakusa

Located in a southern part of Kumamoto-city.  It provides ideal spots

for viewing the saw-toothed coast line of Amakusa and the small

islands scattered across the sea. And there are UNESCO World

Heritages of Hidden Christian Sites in the Nagasaki Region


 

Hitoyoshi

Located in the northern part of Kumamoto along Kuma-gawa River.
Hitoyoshi is a castle town once prosperous as a river port, and
boasts the ruins of the Hitoyoshi castle and Hitoyoshi Onsen. 
The most exiting thing is Kumasawa-kudari that is riding on a boat 
maneuvered by a master polar down the Kuma-gawa River.

Hiraodai Karst Plateau & Caves in Kitakyushu 

One of the three largest Karst Plateau in Japan. It is located in south

eastern part of Kitakyushu-cityAt altitudes between 400 and 600

meters above sea level and stretching 6 km from north to south

and 2 km from east to west.  


 

Mount Sarakura in Kitakyushu

The height of the mountain is 622 meters from sea level. At the top

you are presented with a magnificent and spectacular view of

Kitakyushu. Three Major Night View of Japan from Mount Sarakura to

be experienced. The beautiful night view is created by combination

of industrial zones and rich nature areas.  


 

Sakurai Futamigaura in Itoshima

A beautiful sunset scenic spot at Genkai Sea in Itoshima, the place is

selected as Japan’s 100 scenic beauty sunset beach.  Located in Genkai

Quasi-National Park. The married rock is connected by the large

Shimenawa with 30 metre length and 1 ton weight. Male rock is 11.8

metre high and Female rock is 11.2 metre height.


 

Keya Cave cruise in Itoshima

The most largest basalt cave in Japan located consist of octagon and

hexagon columnar joints. The entrance of the cave is 64 metre high

and 10 metre width and the depth is 90 metre. It is designated as one

of three major Basalt caves in Japan.


 

Unzen

Unzen is a gentle Onsen resort situated in the Unzen National Park.

 The Resort area was originally developed for foreigners as a place

close to Nagasaki-cityIt is started receiving foreign tourists around

the year 1900 when Kaempfer and Siebold introduced the city to

Europe and China.


 

Dolphins watching cruise

Approximately 300 wild Dolphins live in the sea between the Shimabara

Peninsula and Amakusa. The dolphin watching cruises have become

increasingly popular for all ages, especially because it is possible to see

the dolphins so close that you could almost touch them.


 

Mount Tsurumi

 Soaring 1375 metres into the sky, Mount Tsurumi is a breath taking

mountain overlooking Beppu that offers some decent hiking, rare flora

and outstanding vistas. Visitors can take a ropeway 800 metres up

and revel in being surrounded by acres of rolling greenery. 


 

Aso

One of the must visit tourist destination in Kyushu. The world’s

Takachiho Gorge

A narrow chasm cut through the rock by the Gokase River. 

 The nearly sheer cliffs lining the gorge are made of slow forming

volcanic basalt columns which resemble the scales of a dragon

 where the stone twisted and flowed as it formed.


 

Hyuga

Spectacle art collection of exposed Rocks created by raging wave.

 Hyuga is a bay cityfacing the Hyuga nada SeaThe whole area

along Cape Hyuga- misaki with its many exposed rocks is

designated as the Nippo-Kaigan Quasi-National Park. 


 

Sakura-jima Island

An active volcano with three peaks, Kita-dake, Naka-dake and still

active Minami-dake. Formerly an island, it became connected with

the Osumi Peninsula in 1914 when lava from its summit closed the 

channel between the two.

Saga-prefecture is located in the northern part of Kyushu and are adjacent to Fukuoka-prefecture

in the east and to Nagasaki-prefecture in the west. The north side faces Genkai Quasi-National

Park with scenic coast line. In the south, the Saga plain that is adjacent to Ariake Sea is spreading.

The capital of the prefecture is Saga-city.

 

 

Where to Explore  

 

Saga-city

It faces the Ariake Sea on the south and is home to Saga Airport.

In the center of the city is the Saga Castle History Museum, which also

serves as the city’s symbol. The castle itself is no longer standing, but

the main keep has been reconstructed, resulting in one of the largest

wooden structures in Japan.


 

Karatsu and Yobuko

Located on the Higashi Matsuura Peninsula in the north-western part of

Saga-prefecture, have been prosperous from ancient times as an

important point for trade with Mainland China. Karatsu is a part of Genkai

Quasi-National Park, and has many scenic spots.


 

Takeo

Located in the western part of Saga-prefecture. The hot spring temperature

is 18 to 52 degrees. Spring quality is smooth with alkaline simple hot spring. 

It is said that the color is colorless and transparent and has an outstanding

effect on recovery from fatigue.


 

Ureshino Onsen Resort

The hot spring town in south western Saga Prefecture. Its clear onsen waters

are high in sodium bicarbonate and sodium chloride and feel extremely smooth 

on skin, giving rise to its popularity as a “Bihada no Yu” ( beautiful skin waters). 

Ureshino is famous for its tea. Terraces of tea fields sprawling out one after the

next is a scene typical of Ureshino.


 

Arita

It is known for producing Arita porcelain, one of the traditional handicrafts of

Japan. Famous for Arita yaki which is 400-years old porcelain.

The piece is bright, elegant pictures drawn in transparent white porcelain.


 

Imari

The porcelain town, has 400years history. Imari is most notable because of

Imari porcelain, which is the European collectors’ name for Japanese porcelain

wares made in the town of Arita, Saga-prefecture.


 

Kashima

Located about 60 kilometers southwest of Saga-city. It borders the Ariake Sea

to the east and Nagasaki-prefecture to the southwest. Feature sightseeing spot

is Yutoku Inari Shrine and also Sake brewery visiting are recommended.

Nagasaki-prefecture is located north-west side of Kyushu and borders Saga-prefecture on the

east, and is otherwise surrounded by Seas. It also includes a large number of islands such as

Tsushima and Iki. Most of the prefecture is near the coast and there are a number of ports such

city  to Europe and China. 


 

Obama Onsen

Onsen Resort facing to Tachibana bay. Located at western foot of 

Mount Unzenand consist of Shimabara peninsula Onsen Resort

 along with Unzen Onsen Resort and Shimabara Onsen Resort.

About 30 Hotels and Japanese style accommodation are standing

along the Tachibana bay.


 

Sasebo

The 2nd largest city in Nagasaki-prefecture next to Nagasaki-city

The city includes a part of Saikai National Park. Located in the southern

part of the city is the Dutch-styled theme park Huis Ten Bosch.


 

Huis Ten Bosch

Huis Ten Bosch is a theme park in Sasebo, which recreates the

Netherlands by displaying life-sized copies of old Dutch buildings. 

The name Huis Ten Bosch translates into English as “House in

the Woods/bush”.  It is named after Huis ten Bosch in The Hague, 

one of the three official residences of the Dutch Royal Family.


 

Hirado

Hirado off the North West coast of Nagasaki-prefecture is a beautiful

and historic location full of interesting museums, Christian churches,

white sandy beaches and an imposing castle. Portuguese ships first landed

in Hirado’s superb natural harbor in 1549 and St. Francis Xavier

is known to have visited in 1550.

Takachiho

Dynamic and powerful Takachiho Gorge and here is the birthplace

of Japanese mythology. It is the supposed site of legend where

Amaterasu, the Shrine Sun Goddess, disturbed by her brother’s 

cruel pranks, hide herself in a cave, prompting the other gods

and goddesses to try and lure her out.


 

Hyuga

Fukuoka-prefecture is a prefecture of Japan on Kyushu Island. The capital is Fukuoka-city.

Fukuoka-city

Kitakyushu-city

Kitakyushu-city is blessed with spectacular & stunning natural feature and

Dazaifu 

Historical place Dazaifu About 1300 years ago, in Dazaifu, there was a

 government office to manage the entire Kyushu  for a long period of 500 years

at the present Dazaifu. There are numbers of historical sites which reflect to

the ancient history of Dazaifu Tenmangu shrines in Japan


 

Yanagawa

A beautiful canal town Yanagawa, Canal boat cruise can be enjoyed while

experience the atmospheres of Japanese castle town. The estuary town

facing the Ariake Sea through the Chikugo River and Yabe River. People

started to live here since ancient times and the agriculture and fishery have

been engaged in by making Horiwari literary means the artificial canal.


 

Itoshima

A Resort town belonging to Genkai Quasi-National Park located next to 

Fukuoka-city. Itoshima is facing Genkai Sea that the dynamic wave makes

beautiful coast line scenery, and on the other side is surrounded majestic 

Seburi mountain range makes beautiful country side landscape.


 

Munakata and Fukutsu

The Sacred Island Okinoshiam and Associated site in the Munakata Region

has been registered on the UNESCO Wlorld Heritage in 2016.

Munakata Region is located in the west part of Fukuoka-prefecture and facing

to Genkai Sea. The area are consist of Munakata, Fukutsu, Akama and

Oshima Island.


 

Chikugo region

Agricultural industries spreading in the Kyushu’s largest Chikugo plain.

Chikugo region consists of Toho VillageAsakura, Akizuki, Ukiha, Kurume, 

Yame and Hoshono Village. The Kyuhsu’s largest Chikugo River which

flows from Mount Aso through the Chikugo region to Ariake Sea.

Eco Town Center 

Eco Project information center that supports the Eco-town.  It introduces initiatives and activities

implemented in Eco-town to encourage people to proactively used the facility for such activities

as environmental study sessions and interaction amongst visitors.


 

Plastic PET Bottle recycling / Nishi-Nippon PET Recycling

PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles are sorted by municipalities and recycled into pellets and

flakes, which can be used as raw materials for polyester fibers and egg cartons.


 

Melting Furnace  / Sin-Moji Plant 

The collected waste including metals is melted at over 1,700 degree Celsius in the Melting Furnace

and then the melted slag and metals are discharged. The slag is used as raw materials for pavement

and bricks and the metals are re-used for other steel products. The process and technology of the 

Melting Furnace can be learned. 


 

Waste paper recycling / Kyushu Seishi 

Refined waste papers is recycled into toilet papers. Sludge generated during the toilet paper

production process is used to produce a foaming inhibitor used by steel works.


 

Hiagari Sewage water treatment plant 

The sewage come through the sewer pipe is purified in the plant and flow into the sea. There is an

also new technology plant which the electricity is generated using the sludge from sewage. At the

Visitor Center established in 2015, sewage treatment process and technologies can be learned.

Eco Town Center 

Eco Project information center that supports the Eco-town.  It introduces initiatives and activities

implemented in Eco-town to encourage people to proactively used the facility for such activities

as environmental study sessions and interaction amongst visitors.

 


 

Zero Emission Transportation System

The Electric bus driven by the electricity generated by a solar power generation, therefor no global

warming gases emitted from the bus. Operation of the system is commenced in 2015. 

The solar power generation plant, the power charging equipment and Electric bus can be observed.

 Waste treatment and Recycling  

 

Plastic PET Bottle recycling / Nishi-Nippon PET Recycling

PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles are sorted by municipalities and recycled into

pellets and flakes, which can be used as raw materials for polyester fibers and egg cartons

 


 

Melting Furnace  / Sin-Moji Plant 

The collected waste including metals is melted at over 1,700 degree Celsius in the Melting

Furnace and then the melted slag and metals are discharged.

The slag is used as raw materials for pavement and bricks and the metals are re-used for

other steel products. The process and technology of the Melting Furnace can be learned. 

 


 

Waste paper recycling / Kyushu Seishi 

Refined waste papers is recycled into toilet papers.
Sludge generated during the toilet paper production process is used to produce a

foaming inhibitor used by steel works.

 


 

 Power generation plants  

 

Kyushu Electric Power / Shin-Kokura Plant

Kyushu’s first thermal power plant used LNG and power generation capacity is 1,800,000kw.  

Generation of electricity process can be learned by visiting the turbine room, control room and

boiler plant

 


 

J-Power

The company have been supplying low-cost and reliable electricity for over 60 years.  

And research and development of the environmental measurement have been conducted.

New solar power generation and wind power generation systems can be learned.

 


 

 Wind Power Generation 

 

Japan’s first wind power generation plant constructed at the coast line facing windy strong

Hibikinada sea. 10 wind power generators line up and total generation capacity is 15,000kw.  

 

     

 

 Water treatment plants and facilities  

 

Hiagari Sewage water treatment plant 

The sewage come through the sewer pipe is purified in the plant and flow into the sea. 

There is an also new technology plant which the electricity is generated using the sludge from sewage.

At the Visitor Center established in 2015, sewage treatment process and technologies can be learned.

 

Water Plaza 

The Plant making fresh water from sea water and sewage water established in 2011.
The desalination process and technology can be leared.
